The Irish Cat (Flenn O'Brian) is inspired by a story floating around here of a winged cat who carries the souls of the damned about. He delivers them to continue with impunity their fun-loving ways after they have passed on. According to many ancient religions, and also Celtic mythology, a cat could also raise spirits through which his master, knowing to listen to them, would come to know all manner of things. Some believe, even today, that cats have a sixth sense, and are capable of detecting wandering souls, demons and wicked spirits.

The ICat Experience

Fado (F'doe) is an Irish word meaning “long ago.” The narration of an Irish story often begins with the use of this word. The Irish Cat Pub’s story therefore begins thusly: F'doe, in the 90s, a decision was made that Budapest needed an Irish pub experience. What was this, then? It was friendliness, hospitality, delicious traditional Irish food, special drinks and Irish music. The Irish have always known this way of life and are famous for it, and Irish pubs are renowned for making their guests feel at home. No other country is as well-regarded for its pub culture as is Ireland. Irish Pubs provide a special atmosphere to their guests, wherein one may make conversation, listen to Irish music and enjoy a unique atmosphere steeped in tradition.

We invite those who have not visited Ireland to come and partake in a little piece of this beautiful and unique culture by visiting us. The Irish Cat Pub is one of the oldest pubs in Hungary to keep an Irish tradition. The scope of ownership and the management itself are, along with our musicians, of Irish affiliation. These ensure a perfect atmosphere and Irish music of broadcast quality and standards.
The Irish Cat Pub is, however, an Irish pub of a type different from any other. The best of both the modern and the traditional mingles here. The interior, the decor and the friendly staff recall old Irish pubs. The music, food and drink, on the other hand, is mostly contemporary, and through them the modern Ireland is shown.
